When brains do more, who owns us?


Neuralink’s first human brain chip implant can herald a revolution. Thoughts can become actions. Neuro diseases can be controlled. But with a chip inside humans, who will have access to data that defines what we think and who we are?

Our imagination has long been captivated by a complex tapestry of neurons firing in intricate symphonies. Now, with the first human patient receiving an implant from the brain chip startup Neuralink, there are a lot of promises that can come true in this domain.

A future imagined | Paralysed patients regaining control of limbs, artists crafting landscapes and writing without arms. This is the tantalising promise of a tiny coin-sized implant embedded in the brain that translates neural activity into digital signals, and vice versa.
