It’s been three years since Munawar Faruqui narrowly avoided the scandal of being released from jail on serious charges. He was charged with uttering offensive remarks about Hindu deities while performing a stand-up comedy gig in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
He was released on February 6, 2021, after serving 35 days at Indore’s Central Jail. It became feasible after he sought for interim bail, which apparently might be challenged if a chargesheet was presented to the court during an ongoing investigation.
The Tukoganj Police Station was expected to file a chargesheet in Munawar Faruqui’s case, but there has been a delay.Tukoganj police station in-charge Jitendra Singh Yadav told PTI, “Our investigation into the matter is ongoing, and the chargesheet has not yet been submitted to the court.”
According to the same report, an official from the senior prosecution department stated that the delay is due to the Madhya Pradesh state government’s pending permission approval, after which the chargesheet against Bigg Boss 17‘s Munawar Faruqui will be filed in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) mandate.
On January 29, 2021, the police made a formal plea to pursue charges against him under Indian Penal Code section 295A. It remains to be seen when the Madhya Pradesh State Government will give its approval to file the chargesheet.
What is the punishment under the Penal Code section 295A? According to the India code, “Whoever, with deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the religious feelings of any class of citizens of India, by words, either spoken or written, or by signs or by visible representations or otherwise, insults or attempts to insult the religion or the religious beliefs of that class, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.”

Munawar Faruqui was recently spotted addressing a gathering in Dongri after winning Bigg Boss 17. His followers had gathered to congratulate him on his success. Even that occasion sparked controversy when an FIR was filed against him for unlawfully utilizing a drone to shoot his visuals in Dongri.
Munawar Faruqui won the show, with Abhishek Kumar and Mannara Chopra finishing second and third respectively. Ankita Lokhande and Arun Mashettey finished their adventures in fourth and fifth place. Even that event met controversy when an FIR was filed against him for unlawfully utilizing a drone to capture his visuals in Dongri.
