Pay income tax, be political orphans
Indian tax system is fairer and cleaner than ever, except for salaried income earners
This is what economists, bureaucrats and politicians across time and parties agree on: ‘Broaden the tax base and reduce the tax rates’, i.e., more people in India should pay income tax and, as that happens, tax rates should come down. This is what politicians and bureaucrats across time and party lines have done: Reduce income tax base and increase tax rates.
Practice has been the exact opposite of preaching.
