Texas police arrest shooter in murder of Indian man in USworld news



NEW DELHI: The Texas police arrested a man in connection with the fatal shooting of Dasari Gopikrishna, an Indian national living in the US for eight months, during a robbery at a Dallas convenience store.
Hailing from Yajali village in Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district, Gopikrishna was shot multiple times, including in the head.
Texas police charged 21-year-old man Davonta Mathis with murder charges and set a bond at USD 7.5 million.Sgt. Curtis Phillip of the Mesquite Police described Mathis’ behavior as “very bizarre,” emphasizing the significant consequences of his actions at such a young age. Mathis is also charged with another fatal shooting in Waco city on June 20, where he shot and killed 60-year-old Muhammad Hussain.
The Indian consulate is working with Gopikrishna’s family, the Telugu Association of North America (TANA), and family friends to arrange the repatriation of his body to his hometown in India. The consulate has confirmed that all necessary formalities and police autopsies have been completed, and they aim to ship the body by Tuesday.
Who is Dasari Gopikrishna?
Gopikrishna, 32-year-old man was fatally shot during a robbery at a convenience store in the US state of Texas on June 21. He sustained critical injuries and later was declared dead while undergoing treatment at hospital.
Expressing condolences to Gopikrishna’s family, Manjunath said, “Deeply saddened to learn about the tragic demise of Indian National Mr. Gopi Krishna Dasari, in a robbery shooting incident at Pleasant Grove, Dallas, Tx We offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased. @cgihou is in touch with local family member & extending all possible assistance including through Indian Associations.”

A video of the incident has gone viral in which a masked man wearing shorts and a cap is seen shooting multiple times at Gopikrishna and then stealing some items and cash from the retail outlet where the victim worked.
The incident has deeply affected the Indian community in Dallas and surrounding areas. Gopikrishna is survived by his wife and son.
