Forcing widows to sit close to the officer, asking them to stay till odd hours and talking words that had a double meaning was common, recalls Indu Singh, widow of Kargil martyr Inspector Inderjeet Singh

It wasn’t just the trauma of losing her husbands during the war, Indu Singh, widowed during the Kargil War, had to face harassment for several years after.
Instead of support in this difficult time, she and many like her were subjected to unwanted advances at government offices, she says, by the officials who should have instead offered them support in this hour of crisis.
